Green Policy Statement

At Wellington Country Park, we are committed to preserving and enhancing the natural environment for present and future generations.

Our main ethos is providing accessible green spaces for all members of the community to enjoy. Our green policy is rooted in sustainability, conservation, and community engagement. The key pillars of this are:

1. Biodiversity Conservation: We recognise the importance of preserving biodiversity within our Park. We will actively strive to protect and restore native habitats, promote native plant species, and manage invasive species to support a thriving ecosystem.

2. Sustainable Practices: We are dedicated to improving and implementing sustainable practices in all aspects of park management. This includes reducing energy consumption, minimising waste generation, and promoting recycling and composting initiatives.

3. Carbon Neutrality: We are committed to reducing our carbon footprint and with the assistance of the Stratfield Saye estate, striving towards carbon neutrality. This involves promoting alternative transportation methods, such as cycling and public transit, and implementing energy-efficient technologies throughout the Park.

4. Education and Outreach: We believe in the power of education; we strive to inspire and promote environmental stewardship. We will provide educational programs, workshops, and interpretive signage to raise awareness about conservation and sustainability issues among park visitors and the local community.

5. Community Engagement: We value the input and involvement of our community in shaping the future of the park. We will actively seek feedback, collaborate with local organisations, and encourage volunteer participation in conservation and restoration efforts.

6. Continuous Improvement: We recognise that sustainability is an ongoing journey, and we are committed to continuous improvement. We will regularly assess our practices, monitor environmental indicators, and adapt our policies to meet evolving conservation challenges.

Together, with the support of visitors and our community, we can create a greener, more sustainable future for Wellington Country Park, the Stratfield Saye Estate and beyond.

Across the Estate

A review of the Estate’s natural capital has recently been undertaken so that we can understand what benefit we can provide to the natural world but also how we might decrease our carbon emissions. A lot of good work has already been done and there is a long-standing use of eco-friendly energy systems already in place.

In the very near future, we intend to install electric vehicle charging points at all the businesses. We are continually considering how we might switch our vehicle fleet to green energy.

One of the greatest challenges is reducing our carbon emissions through our residential properties. We have some air source heat pumps and one of the larger houses has a ground source heat pump. The age of the buildings that we own will present real challenges as we move towards a greener future.

There is much to be done and we are committed to doing it.
